MissionUltimately, our mission is to make the world safe for human liberty and the exercise of basic human rights (including the right to engage in voluntary economic exchange) upheld by the rule of law. One aim is to promote the historical role of bank secrecy as a defense of civil liberties (such as funding of the French Resistance). By extension, we are defending an important link between economic freedom and all other human rights and freedoms. A central challenge is to explain how enhancing privacy and other individual liberties improves security. The Center works to assist human rights organizations, democratic movements and others in protecting fundamental human rights, including economic ones, in emerging democracies and throughout the world. It leverages its influence by working with a broad range of coalitions with interests in human rights, civil liberties, privacy, free markets, limited government and liberty generally. It publishes policy reports, newsletters and books, holds conferences, and its staff writes and speaks widely on the entire range of financial, privacy, civil liberties and human rights topics.
